You can also right-click on the preset name field to initialize the preset to start your own from scratch. Left/right arrows on either side of it will skim through the presets one at a time. At the top-middle of the Hive display it will show the currently loaded preset. Before I went into the depths of the many synthesis settings, I wanted to audition some of those presets first. Hive has over 2,300 presets to choose from. I won’t cover every single feature in Hive because it’s jam packed with functions, but I will try to cover most of them.Ī browser can help you to navigate through the presets in a plugin. Now that you know more about its features in general, let’s examine it in more detail. On top of all this, Hive won’t be too demanding upon your CPU as it is an efficient synth plugin. Drag-and-drop modulation is also on board, easy to use MIDI learn, and the shape sequencer and function generators round out the features towards the bottom of the display. For the most part the layout of the controls are mirrored on the left and right, and there is a large hexagon towards the middle with extra settings for an arpeggiator/sequencer, XY settings, effects and a scope. The two main oscillators offer a choice of standard waveforms or wavetables, up to sixteen times unison, and there are three different synth engines to choose from. A modern CPU is recommended and it needs host software because there is no standalone version. It is available in AU, VST2, VST3, AAX (Pro Tools 10.3.7+), and NKS with 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
U HE HIVE OVERSAMPLING MAC OS X
Hive 2 requires Mac OS X 10.7+, Windows 7+, or Linux. Since then, many new improvements have found their way into the synth including wavetable functionality. That however is old news now, as the original version of Hive was released in 2015. The original version of Hive seemed to be a new competitor for the likes of Sylenth1 and Spire. For this issue I will be taking a look at Hive 2.
U HE HIVE OVERSAMPLING UPDATE
When I heard there would be a major update for one of their synth plugins, I was definitely interested. Couple that with a no-fuss copy protection and stellar support and, well, the rest is history. There seems no stopping their creativity and the quality of the products improves with useful updates over time. With titles such as Zebra, Bazille, ACE and Diva, they have a powerful synth plugin lineup. Maybe it’s because their software is usually breaking down barriers or at least pushing them to new limits. The music software company u-he has achieved quite a following over the years.
What’s all the buzz (no pun intended) about with u-he’s latest synth? Among other things, Hive 2 boasts powerful additions in the modulation department.
